Distribution:
Common summer visitor to all districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, some wintering in areas of Gilgit and Diamer. Breeds on alpine meadows and boulder-strewn grassy slopes, near patches of snow or water; mostly to 4200m. Winters in foothills and plains.
Behavior:
Forages on the ground; picks food items from ground surface or from low vegetation. Occasionally jumps up to take flying insects, or flies out from a perch to catch prey. In severe weather feeds around burrow entrances of marmots. Mainly feeds on insects, seeds and berries. Ingests grit. Beetles, especially weevils, are the most important prey, also bugs, leaf beetles and caterpillars.
